How Do I Be Healthy?

Recently I have been trying everything to be healthy and cut the bad things out of my diet. I am not going on a diet, like something that you do for a while, cause then when do you know when to stop that diet? Instead I am changing what I eat for good and heading towards a more healthy lifestyle. I have been doing research and trying out different things, and I am not in any way an expert in any of this, so I am discovering it all for the first time and I just felt like sharing where I am at right now. Being a student it is also very hard to be healthy as you are on a very very tight budget so I can't go over the top. What I actually want to be doing is making recipes like from superfoodsiobhan's blog which all look amazing, but for now, let's start with the basics. So what do I get?

Breakfast - For this I have been having a few different things, my favourite being Natural Cottage Cheese with Lizi's Original Granola on as well as a sprinkle of Milled Linseed with Sesame, Blueberries and Raspberries. I have also had Ryvita Crispbread with Light Philadelphia Cream Cheese and the Linseed on top of this, maybe also with some Cucumber.

Lunch - For Lunch I have mostly been having a Salad, depending what I have in the flat, sometimes it will be an Egg salad or a Potato salad, or just a normal salad with Tomato, Cucumber, Yellow Pepper and Iceberg Lettuce.

Dinner - For Dinner I have been having a Pasta Salad with Avacardo and Salmon. Another meal was Chicken with Spinach Rice and Green Beans. And also Creamy (Light Philadelphia with a splash of Coconut Milk) Pasta with Broccoli and Diced Turkey, and I will throw lots of extra veg into that including, Aubergine, Spinach, Green Beans, Sweetcorn, Courgette, Greens and basically anything that I have around at the time. Then to season I have been using 'Lime Pepper' which is very very tasty.

Snacks? - This is the hardest part for me cause I used to snack all the time, on Chocolate, Crisps, Cookies and Biscuits none stop. So for me this was the biggest change I had to make. What do I snack on now? Well I have been having, Seed Mixtures (Sunflower, Pumpkin etc...) with dried fruit and also nuts (Pistachios). Then Low-Fat Salt and Vinegar Rice Cakes. Of course there is also fruit like Banana, Avacardo, Oranges, Apples, just depending on what I buy. Pasta and Sweet Potato - I am also trying out wholewheat pasta as this is better for you. Then I also have some Gnocchi which I really like. I feel like pasta is my main carbohydrate so if it's not wholewheat then I don't think it really matters and I love a bit of Linguine. If I am not having pasta I will alternate it with a sweet potato, stick it in the microwave for 6 minutes (put fork holes in it first, so it doesn't explode) and then you have a lovely baked sweet potato and they are lovely with any meal. Drink - Water! I only really drink water now and it really is the best for you. But when I do fancy a little bit of a change I either have Orange Juice, Cranberry Juice and I bought these Innocent Smoothies because they were on offer but I'm not sure on if they are good yet. I feel like they may contain a lot of sugar but we shall see. Well that's it. I know this is not like expert healthy foods, but it's for beginners right and so far for me it has been working, along with my exercise at the gym. So far I have loved healthy foods on a budget. If I wasn't on a budget I would try so many different things and would have smoked salmon all the time! I hope you enjoyed reading this and of course if you have any tips for me that would be great! Thank you once again, see you soon, Sarah, x

  2. It's so smart to just eat healthier rather than going on a diet. :) I try to eat healthy, but fast food does sneak in sometimes!

  3. Healthy eating is the way to go, looks like you're off to a good start. I might have to get a pot of cottage cheese too, I love cheese too much to give it up entirely.
